Blogs / Webster Defines Black People

While writing my previous post "Walk This Way but Talk This Way" I had a few questions:

1. Why is the term ebonics defined BY WEBSTER'S DICTIONARY as "Black English?"

2. Why is the term ebonics a combination of ebony and phonics?

3. Why is the term Black English defined as a language spoken by some African-Americans?

Webster has defined ebonics as a language spoken by some African-Americans. If I don't speak this broken down, improper English then does that make me any less Black or African-American?

French, Italian, Spanish are languages sometimes spoken by African-Americans. Hell, I know some Spanish...shit...I even know SIGN LANGUAGE. Why isn't that in the dictionary? White people also speak ebonics so why weren't they included in the definition?

If improper English is referred to as Black English, a language sometimes spoken by Blacks, then is it okay to assume that proper English is White English, a language sometimes spoken by Whites?

I can't begin to tell you the amount of times that I have spoken proper English and have been ridiculed and taunted, "Tasha stop speaking like a white person...why are you speaking so proper? What is with the proper English?" "Talk black."

Ebonics is just another ignorant term glorified by black people when really the term is meant to insult them. Ebonics is just another word for slang but with a twist of racism.

It seems as if black people are bowing down to Webster's definition of black people. Fight the power indeed.

Do me a favour and delete the term ebonics from your lexicon. Then maybe black people wouldn't be set back hundreds of years, every other day.

I'm mad. And I'm just sayin.
